The Game Review publication originally started as a section within The Week In Warez newsletter under the title of 'Ionizer's Game Review'. Within the first month of Ionizer's Game Review initial publication The Week In Warez had ceased. Ionizer who was without a magazine to print his game reviews simply started his own. With the first issue of The Game Review was published on the 5th of November 1995.

In 1996 the newsletter found itself so popular that other publications such as Reality Check Network and Defacto included the reviews as supplements within their own magazines.

April 4, 1997 saw the last issue of a continuous weekly review from Ionizer. At the time he claimed he was going to return and he did but only for a few more issues.
